Munich Re‘s Natural Resources Fac team continues to strengthen its footprint in the worldwide energy industry by enabling and partnering with our clients to implement the energy transition. For this, an opportunity has emerged for an underwriter in our Munich o?ce. With a responsibility for worldwide clients active in the onshore downstream energy oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical business, this role will have an emphasis on profitable underwriting of existing business and risk assessment of developing technologies such as hydrogen production or other clean tech solutions. Be part of the successful collaboration between our o?ces in the international organisation and the head o?ce in Munich, driving the professional underwriting of facultative reinsurance business.

Your job

• Profitable underwriting of global facultative onshore Energy business in accordance with our strategy (including ESG aspects) and within designated underwriting authority:
• Analysing risk inspections
• Pricing and acceptance of large and complex energy risks
• Controlling accumulation risks including natural hazards
• Assuring compliance with group-wide guidelines
• Conducting negotiations with cedents and reinsurance brokers
• Developing, maintaining, and expanding client and broker relationships
• Assisting the implementation of portfolio analysis and compiling statistics and reports
• Contributing to an inspiring team environment

Your profile

• University degree, preferably in engineering or applied science-related discipline, or a recognised professional quali?cation in insurance
• Ideally experience as an underwriter in direct and/or facultative insurance or practical experience as an engineer
• Basic knowledge of risk assessment and pricing methods as well as competencies in the analysis of wordings/contracts
• Competencies to quickly learn other occupancies (e.g. Mining) and follow-up on new or developing technologies
• Strong negotiation skills and experience negotiating terms and conditions with clients and brokers
• Strongly pronounced sales orientation with the ability to build sustainable relationships with clients and brokers
• High degree of responsibility, motivation, decisiveness and self-employment
• Excellent social skills, ability to coordinate and work with an international team
• Analytical skills, capability to be innovative and creative
• Solution-oriented with a focused, proactive, and e?cient work style
• Fluent business English is essential
• Willingness to travel
