The 1985 vintage is one of Château Rausan-Ségla's best and is also highly rated by all critics. This vintage is rarely available on the international market. 94 Punkte Robert Parker: Tasted at lunch at La Trompette, it has that beguiling bouquet of cedar, mushroom, graphite and warm bricks, developing hung game aromas with further aeration in the glass. The palate displays wonderful balance and freshness, the Cabernet Sauvignon more prominent than in other bottles, a little ‘stricter’ and foursquare at first, but mellowing with time, developing that savoury, chestnut tinged, heart-warming finish. It does not have the breeding of say, Chateau Margaux ’85, but to be honest, it does not need it. Drink now-2025.

92 Punkte Wine Spectator: Broad, rich and concentrated with loads of ripe plum, currants, and earth, woven together in a full, gentle style. The nose offers a bouquet of cedar and fruit and the flavors spread out on the palate and linger on the finish.

92 Punkte Cellar Tracker: Vibrant ruby color. Nose dark violets, lightly dusty with pencil shavings. Palate bright cherries, sweetness with a light graphite finish. Still primary, no rush with well stored bottles; much promise. 1985 was an outstanding vintage and this is a good quality Second Growth Wine that scores an average of 92 points on Cellar Tracker. This wine is fully mature and there is still a pretty generous amount of fruit intensity on the palate. The tannins are now fully integrated and there is a good medium finish on the palate.
