The area is also well connected with its local public transport system. Line S2 of the Berlin S-Bahn serves the area, taking you right through the centre of the city via Potsdamer Platz up to the northern part of Berlin all the way to Bernau.
Lichtenrade, birthplace of the former mayor Klaus Wowereit, is characterised by small detached and semi-detached family homes and preserved farmhouses, also features large high-rise housing developments constructed in the 60s and 70s.
